I selected this visual becuase it complements the Keim et. al (2008) definitions of data, visualization, knowledge, and model. It is not a recent vizualization, dating back to the early 1800s. I first witnessed this piece while reading Edward Tufte's The Visual Display of Quantitative Information and was immediately impressed by the contrast between the clear composition and dense amount of information being portrayed.
This piece created by Charles Minard is titled "Napoleon’s March".
